Airports and Train Connections

Bamberg is relatively easy to reach.

The nearest airport is situated in Nuremberg (~60 km), though it is rather small and could mainly be reached via transfer flights. From Nuremberg airport you can easily reach Bamberg within a bit more than 1 hour. From Nuremberg ariport you take the subway (line U2 which leaves directly in front of the airport building) to Nuremberg main station (~15 minutes ride). At Nuremberg main station, you change to German Railways. It takes about 45 minutes to reach Bamberg main station.

The larger alternatives, Munich airport and Frankfurt/Main airport are also relatively close, but you will have to make a longer trip on train to get to Bamberg (~2 hours from Munich, ~2.5 hours from Frankfurt including one change of trains).

Given available public transport infrastructure in Bamberg, we recommend booking a room or apartment in Bamberg inner city. Especially in the surrounding, public transport connections do not run as frequently. Within Bamberg city, places are usually accessible by foot and within walking distance.
